Avoid the “Brace Face” Look. Choose Invisalign®

One of the biggest concerns for people receiving orthodontic care is their appearance during treatment. Nobody wants to look like a “brace face” and have a metal smile. Not to mention the restrictions traditional metal braces put on your diet and the sharp edges that cut gums and lips. This is why we offer teens and adults the option of choosing Invisalign® clear braces as a more discreet and comfortable alternative to traditional orthodontics. Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners that look almost invisible when being worn and can be removed when you want to eat, drink or clean your teeth. They virtually remove all concerns our patients have with metal braces!

Drs. Dustin and Kenneth Rabine can use Invisalign to straighten teeth that are affected by spacing, crowding, or jaw misalignments such as an underbite, overbite, crossbite or open bite. The clear aligners will gently and gradually shift your teeth into their ideal position over the course of several months. And since you can take them out to eat, patients very rarely break the aligners (unlike brackets and wires with traditional braces) so there are fewer trips back to our Shelton, CT office for repairs. This also means that you can have a shorter treatment time than normal—often cutting down the time by several months!

How Invisalign Works

Phase 1:
Understanding Your Mouth

Invisalign utilizes the latest in modern digital technology to plan your case. During your consultation with our dentists, we will capture images of your teeth and bite using our iTero® intraoral camera and KaVo OP 3D™ cone beam CT scanner. These detailed images show us exactly where your teeth and their roots are. We will use this to then digitally create your treatment plan and can show you every step of the Invisalign process, plus how your teeth will look after treatment is completed!

Phase 2:
Wearing the Aligners

Once your aligners are created, you have to keep them in your mouth for 20-22 hours every day. Only remove them to eat, drink or brush and floss your teeth. After around two weeks, the current set of aligners will have shifted your teeth gradually and you will need to switch it out for a new set, which will adjust your teeth a bit further towards their proper position. This pattern continues until you have gone through all your aligners.

Phase 3:
Assessment

During your treatment period, we will periodically want you to come in for a dental assessment to judge how your aligners are working. At the end of your treatment, we will perform a final assessment and let you know if further adjustments need to be made or if you can start enjoying your new, beautifully straight smile. Proper compliance while wearing the aligners often leads to the quickest results!
