Put an End to Jaw Pain

What is the TMJ?

If you experience frequent jaw pain whenever you try to open or close your mouth, chew, or perform basic jaw functions, you may be suffering from TMJ disorder. Your jaw is connected to the sides of your skull by thin muscle tissue, called the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). When this becomes overworked, inflamed or damaged, it can become difficult for you to perform everyday oral functions, which is called TMJ disorder. For some, this disorder can lead to jaw pain, others can experience difficulty eating and speaking, while in extreme circumstances, patients may not even be able to open their mouth at all! At Rabine Family Dentistry, we offer effective TMJ treatment via customized mouthguards to realign your jaw. These mouthguards are an effective alternative to oral surgery or permanent adjustment of your teeth.

What Causes TMJ Disorder?

TMJ pain can often be attributed to an overactive jaw or muscle. Many times, this occurs unbeknownst to the patient while they sleep when you grind and clench your teeth subconsciously. Not only will this cause a sore TMJ muscle, but it can damage your teeth as well! For other patients, oral trauma or an accident can damage the muscle and make it more difficult to use properly. Seeking timely TMJ treatment can get you back to a more natural quality of life, free of pain and discomfort.
